JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The North American Soccer League is expanding and has picked the River City as one of two cities that will have a new team for the 2015 season.

Jacksonville and Oklahoma City both submitted a franchise expansion bid that were unanimously approved Thursday after two days of meetings in Dallas.

According to a release from NASL, Dario Sala of the Sunshine Soccer Group and Mark Frisch led the effort to bring a team to Jacksonville.

"I am thrilled to have helped lead an effort to bring pro soccer back to Jacksonville," said Frisch. "I am very grateful for all the support from the city and the fans leading up to this day. I know the fans out there have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I cannot wait to go out and meet them all personally and talk the beautiful game of soccer in Jacksonville."

NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson said he sees a passion for soccer and a stable future in both Jacksonville and Oklahoma City.

"I have seen first hand the desire the Jacksonville community has for a professional soccer team to call its own and believe this is a great move for soccer in Florida," Peterson said in the release. "The Sunshine Soccer Group is creating another in-state rivalry for our teams the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Fort Lauderdale Strikers, appealing to the global soccer passion for local derbies that are always special occasions."
