Jacksonville seeks a team in the North American Soccer League

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- On the heels of well-attended exhibition matches featured the mens and womens national teams, MLS teams, and professional teams from Mexico, the city of Jacksonville is close getting a new pro soccer franchise.

The Sunshine Soccer Group will be presenting a bid during an upcoming North American Soccer League board meeting on July 25th.  The goal will be to outline logistics that show this group thinks a professional mens soccer team will be successful in Jacksonville.

The commissioner of the NASL recently attended an exhibition match between two Mexican teams at EverBank Field.  He came away impressed.

The City of Jacksonville led by Mayor Alvin Brown and executive director of sports and entertainment Alan Verlander is on board with the plan to lure a pro soccer franchise to the First Coast.
