Jacksonville, Fla. -- The 6th annual Southern Slam Quad Rugby Tournament wraps up Sunday at the Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex.

Twelve teams from all over the country are competing in the tournament.

Quad rugby is a paralympic, full-contact wheelchair sport.

The competitors play with a volleyball on a modified basketball court, and the players say the competition in this year's tournament is stiff.

Don Bergman, captain of the Brooks Bandits, has no mobility from his chest down.

When he was 16 years old, Bergman dove into a pool, hit the bottom, and broke his neck in two places.

Bergman says most who have a disability feel their life is over, but tournaments like the Southern Slam Quad Rugby Tournament empower competitors.

Brooks Rehabilitation Adaptive Sports and Recreation sponsors the event.

If you'd like to check out the action, admission is free.
