JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sharks and the Arena Football League announced Tuesday that Jacksonville wide receiver Jomo Wilson has been selected as the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17 of the 2014 AFL season.
The League is honoring Wilson for his performance in the Sharks' 62-34 victory over the San Antonio Talons on Sunday, July 6.
Wilson sparked the Sharks' offense with five touchdowns on his first five touches of Sunday's game. He hauled in touchdown receptions on three consecutive drives in the second quarter, scoring from 11, five and 26 yards out. Wilson's third touchdown of the game came with just 17 seconds remaining in the first half, giving the Sharks a 28-13 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Wilson notched a four-yard rushing touchdown, which was his first score on the ground this season. Wilson capped his effort with another 26-yard touchdown with 13:31 remaining in the fourth quarter. Overall, Wilson finished with six receptions for 84 yards and four scores to go along with his rushing touchdown.
The 30-year-old Wilson is in the midst of his third season with the Sharks and fifth overall campaign in the AFL. He actually began the season with San Antonio before returning to Jacksonville via a trade on April 14. Wilson has started each of the Sharks' 11 games since the trade, totaling 71 receptions for 879 yards and 18 touchdowns, totals that rank him second on the team in each category. Wilson has also rushed for one touchdown and recovered a fumble for another score. Counting his time with the Talons, Wilson has recorded 90 catches for 1,126 yards and 23 receiving touchdowns in 2014.
Wilson's honor is the third weekly League award earned by a Jacksonville player this season. Previously, defensive back Terrance Smith was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and earned the AFL Highlight of the Week for Week 13.
