HOLLY HILL, Fla. - Police in Holly Hill said they walked into a house of horror on Halloween after finding a badly decomposing body in a house of filth.
Todd La Duke, 38, and Nicole Scalise, 31, are charged with child neglect and failing to report a dead body.
Police were called to do a well being check on the 33-year-old victim, who was in a wheelchair because of spina bifida.
The victim was found dead on the floor of a bedroom and couple, with three young children, were living in a room just across the hall.
La Duke and Scalise admitted to using the victims EBT card but claim they didn't know the victim was dead because she often goes away for days at a time.
Police said the victim had been dead three weeks to a month and her death is considered suspicious. An autopsy is set for Friday afternoon.
Investigators said the house on Center Avenue was full of urine, animal feces and garbage, and that the smell of the dead body was overwhelming. The home also did not have any running water and the electricity was being used illegally through jumpers, the arrest report said.
