COLUMBUS, Ga. -- A coroner says a woman who died in the Muscogee County jail had broken ribs, a punctured lung and wounds to her face.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Sunday that no cause of death has been given and the investigation is continuing.
Authorities say 46-year-old Lori Carroll was being held Thursday on a charge of disorderly conduct while intoxicated when she was found unresponsive in her jail cell at 5 a.m. She was pronounced dead 40 minutes later.
Bryan told the newspaper it was possible Carroll's injuries could have been self-inflicted. He said jail personnel had told him that she had been banging her head against the concrete.
