The Raines High School football team will be heading south this weekend for a matchup against a perennial power, Northwestern High School from Miami.
This game will take place on Saturday at 7 PM at Traz Powell stadium in Miami.
Both schools have a rich history in football with Raines producing the likes of Harold Carmichael, Brian Dawkins, Lito Sheppard, and Jabar Gaffney. Northwestern alums include Marvin Jones, Snoop Minnis, Teddy Bridgewater, and Amari Cooper.
Dr. Nikolai Vitti, the superintendent for Duval County Public Schools helped to arrange this matchup because his previous job was with Miami-Dade Schools. Northwestern will travel to Jacksonville next season to face Raines.
On Friday, there will be a special send-off rally at Raines High School for the Vikings who are scheduled to depart for Miami at noon. Former NFL tight end Marcus Pollard is scheduled to attend. He is currently the director of player development for the Jaguars.
