ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office may be solving a crime thanks to a quick response from the community.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office posted an advisory to their Facebook fan page Thursday afternoon, warning residents about an alleged phone scam.
According to the post, the sheriff's office received multiple tips about a suspicious phone solicitation. The caller was allegedly using "abusive tactics" claiming they worked with the Sheriff's Office to raise money to help children.
The sheriff's office reminded residents they do not solicit funds over the telephone and asked that anyone with the phone number from the solicitor please provide it to law enforcement.
An hour later, the SJCSO posted the following update to their Facebook page, "The Sheriff's Office has received the numbers necessary to research the callers in our earlier release. No further calls to the Sheriff's Office are necessary at this time. Thank you for the assistance."
An investigation is underway.
