Rio Grande, Puerto Rico (Sports Network) - Fabian Gomez held a 1-stroke
advantage entering the final hole of the Puerto Rico Open on Sunday, but he
bogeyed the par-5 18th, while playing partner Scott Brown birdied for his
first PGA Tour win.
Brown, playing on conditional status after finishing 148th on the PGA Tour
money list last year, carded a final-round 2-under 70 and finished 72 holes at
20-under 268. Now, with his first career win on the tour, the 29-year-old has
his card back and a spot in the PGA Championship later this summer.
Gomez, who was also seeking his first PGA Tour title, ended with a final-round
71 on the Composite Course at Trump International Golf Club and tied for
second place with 19-year-old Jordan Spieth (67) at 19-under.
