WAYNE COUNTY, GA (WSAV) -- Witnesses say a school bus and at least one other vehicle collided on Odum
Highway in Wayne County Monday afternoon around 2:45. Early reports say 1
person, not in the school bus, died from injuries from the crash. Officials
report a total of 17 patients: 14 minors, 3 adults.
The students were traveling from Cedar Wood School in Wayne County, when the
crash happened on HIghway 341. Initial reports from the scene indicate the
driver may have hydroplaned into the bus.
The adults and a few of the children sitting in the front of the bus,
received the most injuries according to the hospital CEO, Joseph Ierardi.
He says the injuries consist of mostly bumps, bruises and scrapes. The
children's injuries are not life threatening, Ieraidi says.
Wayne County School Superintendent Dr. Daryl Fineran, and other school board
member were on hand to lend support to families. Fineran says they are saddened
to hear the driver of the truck has died but count their blessings that the
students and adults on board are okay.
