JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Some signs of encouragement on the construction front locally as housing permits are up in November on the First Coast and a retail project in North Jacksonville is wrapping up.
Housing permits issued in November for Nassau, Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties stand at 394 and through November, 800 more permits were issued than all of last year.
The tally through November, according the Northeast Florida Builders Association, is 3,905 permits.
Retail construction is very visible in North Jacksonville right across the street from the River City Marketplace.
In the spring, Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshalls will anchor the Parkway Shops with four other small stores being part of the plaza and expected to open at the same time.
Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust is handling the retail development with the Parkway Shops being the first phase.
Vice President of Development Ed Eickoff says a phase two is in the works with infrastructure being worked on right now. Eickoff says there is no timeline on when construction would begin on the second phase of the project.
