CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A motorcyclist died in a crash while fleeing a Clay County Sheriff's Office deputy.
Around 2 Saturday morning 24-year-old Kory Deyton and two other motorcyclists were driving north on Blanding Boulevard, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report said a Clay County deputy saw the three motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to catch up to them.
The deputy followed the three onto Arora Boulevard where the report says he turned on his emergency lights to get the motorcyclists to stop.
Instead of stopping, the report said the three accelerated at a high rate of speed, before turning down two different streets off Arora Boulevard.
The deputy lost sight of all three until he drove west on Arora. There, the report said, the deputy found a motorcycle laying on its left side in a yard.
Rescue personnel transported Deyton to Orange Park Medical Center where staff pronounced him deceased.
The report said results are pending as to whether alcohol played any role in the crash.
The report did not list if the police found the other two motorcyclists.
