ATLANTA -- State officials are considering raising the fees for some riders on the ferry connecting the Georgia mainland with Sapelo Island.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said in a statement that proposed changes to the fee structure for certain guests would involve a rate increase. Officials say the increase is being considered partly to address increased operational costs.

A public meeting on the proposed changes is set for 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 in the Senior Citizens Center on Sapelo Island.
