JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 54-year-old man died after he was hit by an SUV shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.
David Gowens was walking west across Heckscher Drive at Shad Creek Drive, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report said Gowens walked into the path of a Jeep SUV driven by 29-year-old Elizabeth Wingate.
Rescue personnel transported Gowens to Shands Jacksonville where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The report said no charges are pending in the crash but whether alcohol played a factor in Gowens in walking into the path of the vehicle is still to be determined.
