In many cases, it's the human owners who are to blame. Doctors say there are simple steps you can take to help.
Exercise for pets, just like people, is key. And there are some other things owners can do, like keep human treats from your pets.
And just like with humans, the excess weight can cause health problems like high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes. Veterinarians also warn it can even shorten their life by two years.
