LARGO, Fla. -- Authorities say a 51-year-old man drowned despite the efforts of two fishermen who tried to save him.
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies say men were fishing in Allen's Creek when they spotted the man struggling in the water Sunday afternoon.
Deputies say the man became unresponsive during the rescue attempt and was taken to Largo Medical Center. He later died there.
The man had apparently recently moved to Pinellas County from South Carolina. Deputies were trying to get in touch with the man's family.
No further details were immediately available.
