Election day is fast approaching, but before November gets here there is an important deadline that is fast approaching.

Georgia and Florida voters must be registered to vote by October 9th.  You can register at any local elections office, tax collector's office or public library.

When you cast your ballot on November 6th, you must have a photo ID with you.  In Georgia and Florida the types of acceptable IDs differ.  Here is a breakdown:

Georgia voters:

-Driver's license

-Valid employee photo ID from any US government, state or county entity.

-Military ID

-Tribal photo ID

-Passport

-Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID including a voter ID card.

Florida Voters:

-Driver's License

-Passport

-Debit or credit card with your photo on it

-Military ID

-Student ID

-Retirement center ID

-Neighborhood association ID

-Public assistance ID

Also, check where your polling location is before Nov. 6th.  Duval County voters especially need to do this because the county has had to reduce the number of polling locations this year, which means several have changed.  You can go to www.duvalelections.com to see a polling map.

Expect to encounter very long lines on Election Day.  For the first time ever Florida has a four page ballot and it takes an average of 15 minutes to read.  Duval County's Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says people could see lines as long as two or three hours on Nov. 6th.  So take advantage of early voting to avoid those long lines.
