TAMPA, Fla. -- A man who went on a shooting spree that left one dead and two wounded has been sentenced to life in prison.
As part of a deal with Hillsborough County prosecutors to avoid the death penalty, 55-year-old Andre Watkins pleaded guilty Thursday to several counts, including murder and attempted murder.
The Tampa Tribune reports that Watkins was upset over a neighborhood dispute in February 2010. In the span of about an hour, authorities say he kidnapped and carjacked an acquaintance, fatally shot 19-year-old Alyssa Marie Aracich and shot at five other men, hitting two.
He was arrested several hours later.
