BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Authorities have identified a pilot whose ultra-light plane crashed at a Tampa Bay-area airport.

The sheriff's office says 50-year-old Christopher Ambrose Washington of Spring Hill died Sunday at the Hernando County Airport.

Witnesses told Hernando County Sheriff's deputies that Washington's aircraft was about 200 feet in the air when it appeared to be struggling. The aircraft then stalled and spiraled to the ground, bursting into flames.

The aircraft's wreckage has been removed from the airport.
