DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- Authorities say a man found hanging from a tree in a South Florida park had apparently killed his girlfriend before committing suicide.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion says a couple out for a walk Sunday morning found the body of Michael Kanuf hanging from a tree in a park adjacent to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The body of Kanuf's girlfriend, Louise Attardi-Cramer, had been discovered in her bedroom four hours earlier by police responding to a call for a wellness check on her. Concepcion tells the Sun Sentinel that the woman died from blunt force trauma.

Authorities say that Kanuf left a note outside a relative's home saying that he killed Attardi-Cramer and he planned to commit suicide.
