TIFTON, Ga. -- Authorities in a south Georgia county are investigating several suspected arson fires.

Tifton-Tift County Fire Chief Mike Coleman says a recent house fire on U.S. Highway 319 North and a vehicle fire in the area of Clint Circle are being investigated as arson.

Coleman tells The Tifton Gazette that an arson investigator is following leads in those cases.

Three other suspected arson fires were reported in late August at area businesses, bringing the number of cases to five within a three-week span.

Coleman said there's nothing to make investigators believe the fires are connected in any way at this point in the investigation.
