COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A Columbia County man has been arrested on multiple charges after deputies responded to house on N.W. Falling Creek Road to investigate a home invasion and shooting.

In a release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, public information officer Sgt. Edward Seifert said the department received a complaint about an unknown man attempting to burglarize Edward Frank Hardy's home. The caller claimed that he shot the intruder in the face.

Upon further investigation by deputies the evidence at the crime scene didn't corroborate Hardy's claims.

Deputies interviewed other witnesses at the scene and they were able to piece together a timeline of what took place inside the house, according to the release.

Hardy's daughter, who was not named in the report, told deputies that her father was arguing with his wife inside the home. Seifert said the daughter attempted to stop the argument and that's when she said her father pistol whipped her.

She feared for her safety so she grabbed a gun from a nearby coffee table and shoot Hardy in the face, according to the release. The daughter then fled the house as her father fired several shoots out of the front door.

Hardy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. He faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
