JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Today the City of Jacksonville will continue notifying employees who are facing layoffs and demotions as part of the latest round of city budget cuts.
According to City spokesman David DeCamp, Jacksonville will be eliminating 150 positions and demoting another 150 people. Those changes will go into effect on September 29 ahead of the beginning of the 2012-2013 fiscal year October 1.

"It's important to note these are among the most difficult decisions we ever have to make. But extraordinary budget challenges for the fiscal year of 2012-13 have forced us to do so as a last resort," wrote DeCamp in an email statement.
Exact employment numbers will be released after retirements and other resignations from current City employees.
Though according to city documents, the Public Works Department will be losing the most employees. Fifty people from maintenance workers to traffic sign installers will be laid off. Those employees make anywhere from $16,905 for a solid waste litter worker to $93,313 for a capital improvement project manager.
The libraries will also see dramatic cuts. In all, 108 library employees are affected. Thirty-three library workers will lose their jobs and another 75 will be demoted. The city has not provided any information about how much money will be saved through demotions. However, the employees facing layoffs earn from $18,032 as a helper to $78,400 as a library services executive assistant.
The Jacksonville Planning and Development department will lose 3 employees at a savings of $136,412. The Neighborhoods department will have seven employees laid off, which will save $198,539.
DeCamp said the City will be working with WorkSource to set up a career fair for the terminated employees.
