JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An investigation is under way into a crash on Interstate 95 involving a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office patrol car and a pedestrian, according to our news partner the Florida Times Union.

The Times Union said Lt. Jimmy Ricks was traveling on I-95 northbound near 8th Street around 5:40 a.m., when he hit and killed a pedestrian that was crossing the interstate.

It's not yet clear why the pedestrian was crossing the interstate or how fast Lt. Ricks was traveling.

Right now, two northbound lanes of I-95 are blocked near 8th Street due to the ongoing investigation. Drivers can take Main Street as an alternate route.
