Norton, MA (Sports Network) - Seung-Yul Noh fired a bogey-free, 9-under 62 on Friday to grab a 1-storke lead after the opening round of the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Noh, who has one win on the European Tour, missed the course record by one shot, but his 62 was a career-best by three strokes on the PGA Tour.

Chris Kirk is alone in second place at minus-8 at the TPC Boston.

Former champion Tiger Woods opened with a 7-under 64. He was joined in third place by Ryan Moore and Jeff Overton.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and Bryce Molder share sixth place at minus-6.

Woods started on the back nine and collected birdies at the 11th and 13th. After four straight pars, he 2-putted for birdie on the par-5 18th to kick off a stellar run of golf.

The 2006 champion converted back-to-back 12-footers for birdie at one and two to move to 5-under. He followed that with a 15-foot birdie putt at three.

Woods dropped his second shot at the fourth within four feet and converted that. He nearly holed his approach at the fifth. Woods kicked in a short birdie try there for his sixth consecutive birdie.

At the ninth, Woods missed the green with his approach and failed to get up and down for par. He closed with a bogey to walk off in the lead at minus-7, but Noh and Kirk moved ahead of him.

"I played really well today. I hit a lot of good shots, and on top of that I putted well at the same time," Woods said. "It was a nice little combination. Had two really sweet little flop shots there today, which was nice, one at 12 and one at four. The one at four was -- that was a good one, and overall I was very pleased with the way I played today and controlled it, and then the wind started picking up, and I still hit really good shots."

Noh did all of his scoring in two 6-hole stretches. His first run of birdies began at the par-5 second, where he 2-putted from 20 feet. After a short birdie at the fourth, Noh converted a 14-foot birdie effort at the fifth.

The 21-year-old South Korean birdied the sixth and seventh from nine and three feet respectively. Noh cruised to five straight pars around the turn.

Noh's second spurt of birdies began with a 5-footer at the 13th. He sank a 13- foot birdie try at 15. Noh's longest birdie of the day came at 17, where he poured in a 39-footer. He closed with a 5-foot birdie putt at 18 to post 62.

"Swing, putting - everything was great today. So happy for today," Noh stated. "Golf is playing 72 holes, so plenty of holes left. Pretty good spot for those last two birdies, but feels not much different."

Kirk started his round with a bogey at the 11th. He came right back with a birdie on 12 and 13. He moved to 2-under with a birdie at the 16th, then Kirk eagled the 18th to make the turn at minus-4.

Last year's Viking Classic winner birdied three of the first four holes around the turn to jump up the leaderboard. Kirk got within one of the lead as he birdied the par-5 seventh. He parred the last two to end there.

NOTES: Defending champion Webb Simpson opened with a 2-under 69 and is tied for 27th...This is the first time Noh has held the lead after any round on the PGA Tour...Of the previous nine winners, only two had at least a piece of the lead after the first round...Kirk matched his career low on the PGA Tour...Spencer Levin, whose brother died just over two weeks ago, withdrew after shooting a 9-over 80.
