Auction site eBay insists that it is not holding a limbo contest today as it offers new cars at successively bigger discounts every hour as a promotion.

Basically, the "New Car Revolution Devolution Sale" works the opposite of eBay. Instead of putting a car up for auction and starting the price at zero, eBay Motors is starting at full price, then showing a bigger discount for the vehicle every hour until it sells. It's going to force potential buyers back to their computers every hour to see if they want to bite, and then they are going to have to beat out everyone else.

About 50 vehicles -- from a Ford Mustang to a Dodge Challenger to a Jeep Wrangler -- are going on the block through Monday.

Interesting idea. EBay says it's never tried it before, and if the prices are still too high for most buyers, or they don't want to hang around their computer every hour, it may not be tried again.
