JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A suspicious package found at the Amtrak station Saturday morning around 6:45 am resulted in the evacuation of the station, delayed an arriving train.
The JSO bomb squad was called out to investigate. Amtrak evacuated their employees and customers at the scene. Police closed access to the train station at Clifford Lane and New Kings Road.
Several people arriving to pick someone up on a southbound train or trying to get on the train were sent to a parking lot along New Kings Road to wait. The train, due to arrive at 9:23, was held up in Callahan.
Police concluded their investigation around 9:15 and the bomb squad determined the Amtrak station was safe. JSO Lt. Sircar would not say what was in the package. Those waiting in the parking lot were allowed back in to the station at 9:27.
The train was expected to be 30 minutes late arriving, and was to get underway on his southbound trip around 10:15. It had been due to leave at 9:47.
