JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The company that built the new Duval County Courthouse, Turner Construction, had problems with another fire system in a school it built in Miami.
Jaime Torrens, Chief Facilities Officer with Miami-Dade County School District said Turner Construction built Robert Morgan Educational Center in August 2003.
He said they had problems with the fire alarm systems. "The school had a 'fire watcher' for the first four or five months," he said. He added Turner paid that person's salary.
Torrens said there was a compatibility issue with the fire alarm system, and it would not communicate with other fire alarm systems on the campus.
He added this problem has not stopped the school district or the City of Miami from doing business with Turner Construction on other projects.
We e-mailed a spokesman for Turner Construction about this project. As of this posting, we have not yet heard back.
