BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Officials say up to a dozen science teachers will get to build and pilot underwater robots under a grant program intended to improve teacher quality.
The College of Coastal Georgia announced that a federal grant will allow for the program. The college, Georgia Institute of Technology's Savannah campus and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Gray's Reef Marine Sanctuary were awarded the $37,462 grant for the project by the U.S. Department of Education.
The Florida Times-Union reports that up to 12 science teachers from third through 12th grades will be selected to participate in the program July 5-7.
Tim Goodale, assistant professor of education at Coastal Georgia, says participating teachers will learn about the recently reformed national science standards that focus on engineering and technology.
