One Arrested in Regency Mall Shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Monday morning the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of one suspect related to a shooting at Regency Square Mall Friday.

Police tell First Coast News 18-year-old Keith Brown was identified by two witnesses as being the shooter.

According to JSO, Brown is being charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent felon.

Regency Square Mall employee Menisa Sapkota was shot in the shoulder and later released from the hospital.

The original target was a different person who the shooter and the other two suspects saw when they were all in the Finish Line store inside Regency Square Mall, according to a police report.

Lt. Brian Richardson said JSO believes the shooting to "be an isloated incident and not part of any pattern or trend."

The same report says the suspect began shooting at the intended target, but instead struck a mall employee.

Brown is currently being held in the Duval County Pretrial Detention Facility.  He is not eligible for bond.

Brown was arrested before as a juvenile.  He was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and armed trespassing in 2009.

Police are still searching for the other two suspects.

Management at Regency Mall was pleased police made an arrest.

"We strive to provide a safe and enjoyable shopping atmosphere  for our shopper," said Charlie Brennan the general manager at Regency Mall.
