CLINTON, S.C. -- A Presbyterian College student athlete died from respiratory depression due to acute alcohol intoxication, Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said after an autopsy today.

Kyle L. Allen, a linebacker on the football team, was found unconscious about 5:30 a.m. Sunday in an on-campus college residence, said Hal Milam, the college's director of media relations.

Allen, 21, was taken to Laurens County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Milam said.

The business administration major, who was from St. Augustine, Fla., transferred to Presbyterian College from Georgia Southern in 2010, Milam said.

Allen redshirted on the football team his first year and then played in all 11 games in 2011.

The college notified the State Law Enforcement Division, as it does with a fatality on campus, Milam said.
