JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Over the weekend the Early Learning Coalition of Duval (ELC of Duval) held their voluntary pre-kindergarten kickoff (VPK) event at the Florida State College at Jacksonville's downtown campus and Ed White High School.
During the event, over 700 four-year-olds enrolled into the free VPK program.
The event is the first of a series of community sign-ups held across the city. The sign-ups offer families who cannot travel to the main ELC office during regular business hours a chance to enroll their children in the voluntary program.
The first community sign-up is scheduled for February 16th at Mandarin High School. Parents may sign their children up from 6-7:30 p.m.

To be eligible for VPK, children must turn 4-years-old on, or before, September 1, and must live in Florida. When enrolling for VPK, parents will need to bring one proof of child's age and one proof of child's Florida residency.
For example, an acceptable proof of age would be a birth certificate, shot records signed by a doctor, passport or military ID.
To prove residency parents should attach a driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement, FL vehicle registration card or pay stub.
