CLINTON, S.C. -- An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death of a Presbyterian College football player.

School spokesman Hal Milam says another student found 21-year-old Kyle Allen of St. Augustine, Fla., unconscious in a fraternity house early Sunday. Allen was taken to Laurens County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Coroner Nick Nichols said he expected to learn the cause of death following an autopsy Monday. Nichols says he does not think foul play was involved.

The State Law Enforcement Division has been notified because of the death on a college campus.

The linebacker transferred from Georgia Southern in 2010 and was redshirted. His teammates were told of his death at a team meeting Sunday morning.

The business administration major played in all 11 games in 2011.

(Clinton, SC) A former Pedro Menendez football player and student athlete at Presbyterian College in Clinton died this morning after he was found unconscious in a college residence on campus, a school official said.

Kyle L. Allen, a linebacker on the football team, was taken to Laurens County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Hal Milam, director of media relations, told GreenvilleOnline.com.

Allen was found unconscious at about 5:30 a.m., Milam said. The cause of death is not yet known, he said.

The school notified the State Law Enforcement Division, as they do with any fatality on campus, Milam said.

Allen, 21, of St. Augustine, Fla., transferred to Presbyterian from Georgia Southern in 2010. His teammates were told of his death at a team meeting this morning, according to information from the school.

"Our deepest sympathies and sincerest prayers are extended to Kyle Allen's family, teammates, and many friends," said Bob Staton, the college's chief of staff. "Our campus community grieves this untimely and tragic loss as we remember Kyle and his many contributions to the PC family."

Harold Nichols, Presbyterian's head football coach, described Allen as "an exemplary athlete and hard worker, well-respected by his teammates and coaching staff and he will be sorely missed."

Allen, a business administration major, redshirted on the football team his first year and then played in all 11 games in 2011.

"The entire football program and Presbyterian College is grieving," Nichols said.

A prayer gathering is scheduled at 6 p.m. this evening in Springs Gym.
