SWEETWATER, Fla. (AP) -- A South Florida police department is searching for one of its own search dogs.

Sweetwater Police say their 60-pound bloodhound named Gunner went missing Friday afternoon from the backyard of its K-9 handler. The 7-month-old black and tan dog is training to search for missing children.

Detective Octavio Oliu tells The Miami Herald that Gunnar was donated by the Jimmy Ryce Foundation six months ago.

The Miami-Dade Police deployed a helicopter with heat-seeking equipment for the search Friday night. The Hialeah Police Department has contributed one of its bloodhounds to the search. An older Sweetwater Police bloodhound has been called out of retirement to help as well.

Anyone with information about the missing dog is asked to call the Sweetwater Police at 305-552-9900 or CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
