(USA TODAY) -- President Obama has no public schedule Thursday -- at least not yet -- but
Vice President Biden will be out promoting the administration's gun control
plan.
Biden will appear on the website Google+ for a "Fireside Hangout" on the plan
that includes proposals for an assault weapons ban, expanded background checks,
and restrictions on the size of ammunition magazines, as well as school safety
and mental health programs.
The "Fireside Hangout" --described by the White House as a "21st Century
take" on Franklin D. Roosevelt's famed radio addresses -- starts at 1:45 p.m.
EST.
On Friday, Biden will make a public appearance on behalf of the anti-gun
violence plan in a state with a number of gun owners: Virginia.
The event in Richmond will also feature a key senator in the event, Sen. Tim
Kaine, D-Va.
Biden developed the administration's plan after a series of meetings with
stakeholders in the gun issue; the meetings followed the Dec. 14 mass shooting
that killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in
Newtown, Conn.
