Former Penn State football assistant Mike McQueary has sued the
university, claiming he was made a scapegoat for reporting seeing Jerry
Sandusky have sex with a young boy in a shower room, NBC says.
McQueary would not comment on the whistle-blower suit, which was filed this afternoon, NBC 10 Philadelphia reports. Penn State's communications director, David LaTorre, told NBC News the university "won't have a comment."
McQueary
was placed on administrative leave a year ago after a grand jury said
university officials lied about what he had reported seeing in 2001. He
was not rehired.
He is seeking $4 million in projected lost
salary; back pay for the Sandusky trial; 2011 bowl game bonuses;
compensation for losing his university-provided car; repayment for early
withdrawals from his retirement account, plus his legal expenses.
Last week,
a Pennsylvania judge upheld perjury charges against former Penn State
vice president Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley, who are
accused of lying to the grand jury.
Sandusky was convicted in June of 45 counts of sexually abusing boys while he was an assistant football coach. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 9.
