BAGHDAD (AP) - A predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad is the scene another bloody attack today.
Iraqi police say a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed car near a funeral procession. The death toll has reached at least 32, but dozens more were wounded. Half of those killed were policemen guarding the march.
Minutes after the blast, gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint in the area, killing two more policemen.
At least 200 people have been killed across Iraq since the beginning of the year in a wave of attacks by suspected insurgents. Just weeks after the withdrawal of U.S. military forces, the attacks are raising concerns that an escalating political crisis might deteriorate into a civil war.
Most of the dead have been Shiite pilgrims and members of the Iraqi security forces.
