Two children dead after car crashes into pole; seven others injured

Community mourns children killed in crash

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- Two boys, one eight years old and the other nine years old, were killed in an overnight car crash in Fernandina Beach on Saturday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before midnight. Officials say Tonya Capallia-Eason, 33, had eight children in the car when it crashed into a utility pole near Lonnie Crews Road and Lina Road. The report states that this was an alcohol related accident.

Capallia-Eason is the mother of four of the children involved in the crash including the two boys killed, Nick and Nehemiah Capallia.

The other children involved in the crash suffered serious and critical injuries and are being treated at UF Health in Jacksonville. They say the driver suffered minor injuries. All of the passengers were under the age of 15.

The family had apparently just left a Halloween party less than a mile away from the crash scene.

A neighbor, who lives less than 100 yards away from where the accident happened, says she went outside after the crash into what she described as chaos.

A memorial continues to grow at the intersection where the two boys were killed.
