JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Pine Castle is able to help more people with the $5,000 from The Players.
While everyone celebrates The Players Championship each summer, it's months earlier when everyone locally cheers.
"The golf tournament may occur seven days of the year. But we're operating 52 weeks a year and engaging the community," says Jay Monahan, Vice President and Executive Director of The Players.
The Players kicked off a month of giving back, passing out checks to more than 100 charities.
"With the tough economy we're in right now, every dollar is so important to these organizations. They're struggling," said Kevin Robbins with The Players.
Jon May says the $5,000 his group got Monday will allow them to help more people, clearing his waiting list of people in need at Pine Castle.
All total, The Players handed out $4.15 million, surpassing last year's contributions by more than $1 million.
Monahan talked with Good Morning Jacksonville Wednesday morning about some of the events The Players has scheduled for the month of November. The events include a 5K Run with Donna after Thanksgiving. The Players is also building the first Boys & Girls club in St. Augustine.
