Teen charged after speeding car crashes into pond

Update: The 17-year-old driver has been charged with reckless driving.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Two teenagers drove a car into a pond in Palm Valley Saturday evening.

The teens, both 17 years old, sped past two deputies who were working traffic on Nocatee Parkway, according to Commander Chuck Mulligan with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. The deputies said the black car was going faster than 100 miles per hour.

A "be on the lookout" was issued for the black car because the car sped by so quickly the deputies could not get behind it.

Mulligan said the car went over the Palm Valley Bridge and made a hard left turn at the base of the bridge. He said the car then became airborne, crashing through bushes and a fence, landing in a pond in the Sawmill Lakes neighborhood.

Mulligan said the teenagers were driving a black Cadillac CTS and were able to get out of the car. Nobody was hurt. He said the teens are from the Marsh Harbor community in Ponte Vedra.

Deputies are investigating and the teenagers could face charges.
