JACKSON, MS -- A four-year-old chihuahua dog survived more than 24 hours under water, by staying in an air pocket of a house boat that sank after hitting a stump.

It happened at the Ross Barnett Reservoir the Friday of Labor Day weekend.

The dog belongs to 47-year-old Rebel Barrett of Madison.

In her haste to get off the sinking boat she forgot the dog.

The four people on the boat thought it was too late, but went back to the sunken boat 24 hours later and heard the dog whimpering.

Scuba diver Robert Blaine owner of the boat went down and found the dog in about a two inch air pocket.

The dog is fine, but her owner says she is now more aggressive after the ordeal.
