ORLANDO, FL -- Orlando police captured a diapered monkey who created a traffic headache on Friday.
Authorities said the monkey was tying up traffic during rush hour.
Rommell Gray was driving to work when he saw the bizarre situation.
"We saw a monkey sitting up there on a fence," Gray said.
Gray, his girlfriend and her mother were traveling to work on Conroy Road when they saw the animal.
"I thought it might be a nice pet, a cool pet," Gray said.
They tried to catch the critter, but freedom is precious to a monkey wearing a diaper, and it apparently wasn't interested. It started chasing Gray.
"I was running away from him because he's got teeth," Gray said.
Animal Control arrived at the scene and used a banana on a string to lure the monkey into a cage.
The animal circus was over, and so was Gray's desire to have a pet monkey. He said if he had caught the creature, he would have named it Crazy.
Authorities said the owner, who is out of town, did not have a permit for the monkey. It's a capuchin and escaped through an open window.
A friend of the owner was supposed to be caring for the animal. It will be temporarily kept at a local wildlife refuge.
The monkey's name is Prada.
