WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man was critically injured after authorities say he jumped from a moving commuter train to retrieve his cell phone.
West Palm Beach police say the Tri-Rail train was leaving the station Monday night when 26-year-old Eddie Diaz realized he left his phone on a bench. The Palm Beach Post reports that Diaz then broke the glass of the emergency safety mechanism, pulled the emergency stop lever and exited through the front passenger door.
Witnesses say Diaz tried to leap from the train to the platform but slipped and fell. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
