VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) - A Florida
Fish and Wildlife officer was attacked by a Port Orange man when the
officer caught him disposing of methamphetamine lab materials near the
Halifax River.
Rusty Bates, 48, was arrested Tuesday night on U.S. 1 in the three bridges area between Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach.
An
FWC officer saw a suspicious vehicle backed up on a boat ramp, and
according to the report, saw Bates holding hazardous materials.
Officials said Bates threw some of the materials on the officer and attempted to grab the officers gun when the two struggled.
The
officer subdued Bates and a hazmat team was called in because an active
meth lab was found in and around the vehicle, officials said.
Bates is charged with resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and tampering with physical evidence.
