REIDSVILLE, NC -- Police think a bizarre weekend bomb threat and jewelry theft might be tied together, and they're working to track down who's behind each crime.
Officers say someone called in a bomb threat to Annie Penn Hospital at 2:13 a.m. Sunday. Just 20 minutes later, dispatchers got a burglary alarm call at Eden Jewelry store on Freeway Drive.
When officers responded to the jewelry store, they found hundreds of nails strewn across Freeway Drive. As of Monday afternoon, investigators hadn't definitively linked the bomb threat to the jewelry theft, but say there's a good chance they're related.
Given the effort to delay and potentially distract officers, police Chief Charlie Dennis said he doubts this is the first time these criminals have done something like this. He said there are three suspects in the jewelry store robbery who all wore jumpsuits, hoodies and masks.
Store workers tell WFMY News 2 the robbers got away with only a few thousand dollars worth of jewelry.
