FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Where's the beef? You don't want to know.
A Fort Pierce man is facing robbery charges after police say he stuffed eight packages of steak down his pants and tried to leave a grocery store, according to a Fort Pierce Police arrest report obtained by TCPalm.com.
Louis Overstreet, 54, was arrested on Jan. 7 after he was spotted leaving the Publix in the 2500 block of U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce with the steak packages, worth about $131, according to the report.
A loss prevention officer spotted the steak swipe and told a Publix general manager, who confronted Overstreet, the report said. When the general manager confronted Overstreet outside the store, Overstreet pushed him and fled, the report said.
A short time later, an officer found Overstreet with the steaks "which were stuffed within his pant legs," according to the report.
Knowing he was caught red-handed, Overstreet confessed to the steak heist, the report said.
"Man, I just stole some steaks, that's all," he told the officer, according to the report.
Overstreet booked into the St. Lucie County jail and was being held Tuesday on $50,000 bond. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
