JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida dropped out of the hardest hit states for the flu, with the Centers for Disease Control now putting 24 states in the high risk category.
Florida's flu activity is now classified as "moderate."
Dr. Mark Smith with Doctors Express said this is no time to let your guard down, getting vaccinated is still the best move to make.
"People come in sick and wish had gotten the flu shot," said Smith from his clinic on Atlantic Boulevard.
Zahiya Smith doesn't need to be convinced on the importance of being on defensive against the flu.
"It can be dangerous," said Smith.
"Between me and my three year-old I make sure get vaccinated every year."
So far nationwide, more than 20 children have died from the flu. There is no tally for adult victims, but the CDC estimates the flu kills about 24,000 people in an average year.
