JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A road construction project that's lasted three years on Heckscher Drive will not wrap up this spring.
The completion deadline is now being pushed back until early fall after a gasline was not correctly shown on the plans, according to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. The delay will not add on to the cost of the $61 million project.
A two-mile stretch of roadway is being expanded from two to four lanes along with bridge work. When completed Heckscher Drive will be four lanes from I-95 to 9A near JaxPort.
The state is also planning work in this area to connect 9A with New Berlin Road. A hearing on that work scheduled to begin in two years will be held Thursday, April 21, at the Holiday Inn Express at 10148 New Berlin Road. The meeting gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
