CAMDEN, GA -- A 17-year-old was arrested Monday on charges of enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Dennis Gary Sheppard's arrest came when deputies responded to reports claiming a man was "acting strangely" and allegedly trying to entice children in the Point Peter area, according to a release from the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators with the CCSO stated they believe Sheppard was allegedly fixated on one particular victim and is accused of arranging his life to have as much time near the victim as possible, the release detailed.
Sheppard is also facing charges of criminal attempt to commit child molestation, according to the Camden County Camden County Sheriff's Office.
A statement from Camden County Sheriff Jim Proctor said, "Sheppard's arrest possibly saved the 10-year-old victim from a terrible fate."
"I believe the quick action by our deputies and the extraordinarily valuable help from the community saved this young boy from a very traumatic, life-altering and potentially life-threatening event. Thankfully the victim is safe with his family."
According to the release, the St. Marys Police Department assisted in Sheppard's arrest.
