9/11 HEROES RUN: Join the run at the Veterans Memorial Wall 5:30 p.m. Saturday. It's a 5k race plus a 1-mile fun run. Registration is $25 per person. Proceeds benefit the Travis Manion foundation.
WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT 8K RUN: Activities begin at the Jacksonville Landing at 7 a.m. Saturday. Join fellow runners and WWP enthusiasts to raise awareness and funds to support Wounded Warriors through WWP. For more information or to register, please visit JacksonvilleLanding.com/events.
VITACOCO PRESENTS THE 14TH ANNUAL SISTERS OF THE SEA SURF CLASSIC: One of the largest all girl surf contests in the nation hits Jacksonville Beach. AUDITIONS - COMMUNITY NUTCRACKER: The Community Nutcracker will be hosting auditions for its 21st Annual Community Nutcracker performance slated for December 7-8th at the Florida Theatre. September 8th auditions are as follow: Female dancers, age 9 and up (8 a.m. - Registration; 9 a.m. - Auditions) Intermediate and advanced dancers (12:30 p.m. - Registration; 1:30 p.m. - Auditions). VISIONS OF HOPE FUNDRAISER/VENDOR FAIR: On Saturday, September 8, the community is invited to "Visions of Hope" vendor fair, silent auction and blood drive to raise money for three Clay County families facing major medical expenses. The event will be held at First Baptist Church of Orange Park from 9am-2pm. The Blood Alliance Blood Mobile will be open from 9am-1pm. Area merchants have been asked to donate items or services for the silent auction and local vendors are welcomed to setup a booth to sell their products for a fee of $25. WINGS 'N' WHEELS: The 2012 Wings 'N' Wheels event is a free, family-friendly event for aviation and car enthusiasts of all ages. The event will feature static aircraft displays, a car show, plane rides, Kids' Zone, live entertainment and a Foreign Objects (FOD) Walk on the runway prior to the event. Guests can also enjoy food and drinks from a variety of vendors. Parking and admission is free. Pets and coolers are not allowed at the event. It's free to attend at Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

447th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Four hundred and forty-seven years ago, in September 1565, Admiral Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés stepped ashore on Matanzas Bay and founded St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest, continuously occupied, European city, port, and parish in the continental United States. On Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. - on the 447th anniversary, to the day - the annual, historical commemoration of Menéndez' landing and anniversary observances will be held at Mission Nombre de Dios in St. Augustine, Florida. There will be historical re-enactments, presentations, and more. It's free for all to attend.

Learn how to prepare for disasters like hurricanes and floods. Get free health screenings. Exercise with the recreation center staff - participate in a yoga or Zumba demonstration. Recreation playground will be open. Learn how to make low cost, healthy meals. The free event is at the Martin Luther King Center in Fernandina Beach from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
HORSES FOR HEROES: 'Horses for Heroes' Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, Sept 8th, 2012 from 11am-3pm at the Ft. Menendez Barn (corner of SR16 & San Marco in St. Augustine). Diamonds in the Rough Horse Farm proudly introduces 'Horses for Heroes', a program that offers Military Veterans un-mounted interaction with the farms' equine therapists in an effort to reduce the severity of PTSD symptoms. The event will feature Master Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Russ, Marine Corps Retired and 'Blondie', a Quarter horse used in the program whose past includes Eventing. Food, including 5-star Pizza and homemade baked goods, drinks and many gifts items for donors will be available. The requested $1 donation will enter visitors in a 50/50 drawing. NOCATEE ZIPLINE GRAND-OPENING EVENT: Nocatee will host a grand-opening event Saturday, September 8, for its newest adventure - a zipline that runs over the community's Splash Water Park. Other activities include a professional DJ, dance party, dance games, snow cones, face painting, and a family magic and comedy show. The zipline starts on the top platform of the Rip Tide Slide Tower, crosses over the park's lazy river and volleyball courts, and ends on the park's western side. The zipline tower is 35 feet tall, and the cable is 347 feet long. Riders can reach speeds of up to 37 miles per hour, with rides lasting between 12 and 15 seconds. The event is at Nocatee's Splash Water Park from noon to 4 p.m.
BASS IN THE CITY: Bass in the City is an all-age, all-day event spanning over multiple venues in downtown Jacksonville from noon-2am. Boasting 30+ DJ's & bands within at least 3 venues and 4 stages, this one-price venue inclusive pub crawl will be like something Jacksonville's Urban Core has never seen. Expect each venue to feature added state-of-the-art lighting and sound, transforming them into unique havens for DJ's and bands to get loose. It all starts Saturday at 12 p.m. in downtown Jacksonville.
2012 SICKLE CELL AWARENESS BENEFIT CONCERT: Sistahs Supporting Sistahs presents the Sickle Cell Awareness Benefit Concert Saturday from 12 p.m. To 5 p.m. At A. Phillip Randolph Park. There will be local vendors and food. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and umbrellas!
39TH ANNUAL BLUEGRASS MUSIC CONVENTION: In Hoboken, Georgia, camp out at the Bluegrass Fest or enjoy the music Saturday at Twin Oaks Park. It's $12 to attend. The music starts at 1 p.m.
THE 11TH ANNUAL DELICIOUS DESTINATIONS: Delicious Destinations will be held Saturday, September 8th, starting at 7 p.m. At the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. The event features executive chefs from exclusive five-star resorts throughout the South, who prepare their signature dishes while Southern Wine & Spirits pairs them with a variety of exceptional wines from an assortment of select domestic and international vineyards. ELECTRIC RIVER AT THE LANDING: Live music by Electric River at The Landing in the Courtyard will feature performances by DJ Scott Dro and other local DJ's starting at 10 p.m. Saturday.
DETECTIVE DAVID WHITE MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT: Saturday a golf tournament is being held to remember slain Clay County Detective David White. White was shot and killed during a meth bust earlier this year. With all the golf slots already filled, tickets are available for the dinner and auction. The cost of admission is $20 and tickets can be purchased at the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Dinner and the auction will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Country Club of Orange Park's Clubhouse. All proceeds raised by the event will help send the Clay County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard and the White family to the national memorial service in Washington, D.C. next year. Detective White's name will be added to the memorial at that time.
